Privacy Policy
Compare Pryce ("we", "us", "our") is an Australian grocery price-comparison service, available as a mobile app for iOS and Android and at comparepryce.com (together, the "Service"). We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the choices you have.
In short: you can use Compare Pryce without an account. If you create one, we store your email address, your favourites and your shopping lists so they sync across devices. We do not show ads, we do not sell your information, and we do not use third-party analytics or advertising trackers.
1. Information we collect
If you create an account
- Email address, used to identify your account and contact you about it.
- Password, stored only as a secure one-way hash by our authentication provider. We never see your password.
- Sign in with Google or Sign in with Apple: if you choose either, we receive your name (if you share it), your email address (or an Apple private relay address if you choose "Hide My Email") and an account identifier from that provider. We do not receive your Google or Apple password.
Content you save
- Favourites: the products you save.
- Shopping lists: list names and the items, quantities and ticked-off status you add.
Information stored only on your device
- Selected stores: the supermarkets you choose to compare are saved on your device and are not sent to us with your account.
- Sign-in session: a session token is kept on your device so you stay signed in.
Search and technical information
- Search queries: the words you search for are sent to our servers to return results. We may keep search terms to improve search relevance and the quality of the Service.
- Request logs: when the app or website talks to our servers, our hosting provider automatically processes your IP address, request time and basic device/browser information for security, abuse prevention and reliability.
- App update checks: the app checks for updates, which shares your IP address, app version and platform with our update provider.
Device permissions
- Camera (optional): used only to scan product barcodes. Barcodes are read on your device. No photos or video are stored or sent to us.
- Location (optional): if you allow it, your approximate location is used only to show supermarkets near you. We do not store your location or link it to your account.
You can turn either permission off at any time in your device settings. The rest of the app keeps working.
What we do not collect
- Payment or financial information. The Service is free and has no in-app purchases.
- Contacts, photos, health information or other sensitive information.
- Advertising identifiers. We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.

We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell, rent or trade it.
3. Service providers
We use trusted service providers to run the Service. They handle information on our behalf, only for the purposes below.

If you choose Sign in with Google or Sign in with Apple, Google or Apple provides us with your name (if you share it) and your email address or private relay address. Their own privacy policies apply to your use of those services.
These providers are mainly located in the United States, so your information may be stored or processed outside Australia. We take reasonable steps to make sure they protect it to a standard comparable to the Australian Privacy Principles.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety or property of our users or others.
4. Security
All data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS. Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text. Access to production systems is restricted and protected by authentication. No system is perfectly secure. If you think your account has been compromised, contact us straight away.
5. How long we keep information
- Account, favourites and shopping lists: until you delete them or delete your account.
- Request logs and search logs: only as long as reasonably needed for security, reliability and improving search, unless the law requires longer.
- After account deletion: your personal information is deleted within 30 days, except where we must keep it by law.
6. Deleting your account
You can ask us to delete your account and all associated data at any time. See Delete your account for the steps and what is removed. You can remove individual favourites and shopping lists in the app without deleting your account.
7. Your rights
Under the Privacy Act you can:
- ask for access to the personal information we hold about you,
- ask us to correct information that is inaccurate, out of date or incomplete,
- ask us to delete your account and personal information, and
- complain if you believe we have breached the Australian Privacy Principles.
Email contact@comparepryce.com. We respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
8. Children
The Service is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will change the effective date above, and for significant changes we will let you know in the app or by email.
